So, Friends, take a firm stand, feet on the ground and head high. Keep a tight grip on what you were taught, whether in personal conversation or by our letter. May Jesus himself and God our Father, who reached out in love and surprised you with gifts of unending help and confidence, put a fresh heart in you, invigorate your work, enliven your speech.
2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 (MSG)
Last Saturday I was blessed to celebrate my birthday with my sister at the “Women of Faith” Conference. As I reflect on that experience, I was drawn to this scripture from 2 Thessalonians. I am using the Message translation because it brings a fresh way to look at the verse and it depicts what I witnessed at the conference.
Women from all around the Midwest stood firm as the Word of God was proclaimed both through scripture and the stories of the women presenting. We stood grounded in the truth of who we are and whose we are!
So often we as women get caught up in our to do lists, the roles we play, the current circumstances of our lives. The only way to stay focused is in our relationship with our Papa God who is always there for us. His promise is we will never be alone. When we pause and take time to nourish our relationship with him on a daily basis we experience our hearts as refreshed, our work as invigorating and our speech as enlivened. We are given daily proof from our Papa God in our own lives the power to “Stand Firm.”
Some of the seasons we experience in this life are not smooth and our circumstances may appear overwhelming, but in our nourished relationship with Papa God we are able to “Stand Firm.” Our trials shape us, they don’t own us. When we are victorious our lives are a living testimony to Papa God. Others are attracted to who we are and we teach whose we are.
Our challenge today is the stand tall, “Stand Firm”, stand up straight, with our head high remembering we are the child of God saved by Grace and we never walk alone.
